Passion Founds a Business Cleaning the Ocean
Passion for the ocean leads founders to create a business helping to solve plastic pollution.
A couple of guys decided to find a way to help reduce the 300 trillion tonnes of plastic that is discarded in our oceans every year. Worse, the plastic can take over a century to decompose, so the numbers build every year. Not only is the plastic unsightly, it kills as many as two hundred thousand mammals every year. With a love of surfing and boating, Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski co-founded a simple solution: a portable unit that sucks in surface water along with the debris that floats in it, and can be attached to any dock. The long term goal is to use the captured plastic to make more baskets to catch more plastics. The company is Seabin Pty Ltd.
Seabin - Innovation in its simplicity
Fixed to a pontoon, the Seabin immersed in the water and connected to an electric pump creates a flow to attract floating waste and hydrocarbons to the collector. Wastes are collected in a bag composed of natural fibers. A separator cleans the water that will be released from hydrocarbons. Once full, the bag waste and pollutants container are emptied by maintenance personnel then replaced in the Seabin.
Expanding Capacity with Poralu Marine
Recently Seabin partnered with a French industrial global leader of aluminum facilities for marinas, Poralu Marine. Poralu Marine announce has an exclusive partnership to develop, manufacture and distribute Seabin worldwide.
Andrew Turton and Pete Ceglinski co-founders of Seabin Pty Ltd declared: "We are very pleased to enter into this partnership which comes after many years of research and testing. Seabin Pty Ltd´s design and development team will be supported by the R&D team of Poralu Marine as well as its wide distribution network: the company is active in 18 countries on five continents, and has factories in France, Canada and Australia.
Fayçal Rezgui, Head of CEI the environmental branch of the Poralu Marine Group explains: "To remain a leader in our field we must be prepared for future challenges. Plastic pollution is a large and predominant one! In the Group, we are investing for many years in the development of eco-friendly solutions. Therefore it seemed natural to support Seabin Pty Ltd because Pete and Andrew have put their hearts into this and they were able to provide a realistic and affordable solution. We aim to co-develop the Seabin system in order to meet the specific needs of our customers. This partnership is just the beginning of a long term collaboration for both companies."
