61 More Companies Sign on to Climate Action 100+
Investors have woken up to the material risks presented by climate change and they’re raising their concerns at the companies they own like never before. To date, 289 investors with a collective $30 trillion in assets under management are committed to the Climate Action 100+.
Climate Action 100+ is a five-year global initiative to engage systemically important greenhouse gas emitters and other companies that have significant opportunity to drive the clean energy transition and help achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Investor signatories are specifically calling on companies to improve governance on climate change, curb emissions, and strengthen climate-related financial disclosures.
Today, the investors have expanded their focus list of companies - adding an additional 61 companies.
The investors behind Climate Action 100+ are already making quite an impact:
- They have made statements to the boards of 19 focus list companies at annual general meetings in April and May, inviting those companies to enter into dialogue and set expectations.
- 18% of focus list companies have signed the official statement of support or committed to implementing the recommendations from the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures, a threefold increase since the launch.
- 22% of focus list companies have set or committed to setting science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets or equivalent long-term targets beyond 2030.
